A fisherman exploring a wooded area near U.S. Highway 59 and State Highway 105 made a disturbing discovery on Monday March 3, 2025 when he found what appeared to be human remains. Cleveland Police Department Captain Scott Felts said the fisherman was near the east fork of the San Jacinto River around 2:46 p.m. on March 3 when he came across the remains. He immediately contacted authorities, and Cleveland police detectives arrived to investigate. The area, which is known to flood during heavy rain, is also near a location where homeless individuals often camp. According to Captain Felts, the body had been there some time and it is unknown if it is a male or female. Basically all we found is a skull and a few bones of what appears to be a small in stature person. The remains had been there at least six months to a year, if not longer, according to Felts. Investigators are working to determine whether any people from the area have recently been reported missing. The remains have been sent to Beaumont for an autopsy, but forensic testing will be necessary to confirm the person's identity, which could take several months, Cadaver dogs will work the area this week to attempt to locate any more of the remains as they were scattered over a large area most likely from animals. . Authorities urge anyone with information about the case to contact the Cleveland Police Department at 281-592-2622.
