At approximately 3pm Wed. on February 12, 2020, an 18 wheeler was north-bound on US-59 a couple of miles north of Livingston. The rig began to hydroplane on the drenched pavement and slid off the pavement to the left where the rig jack knifed in the soft rain soaked median. No injuries. Troopers Colton McQuilkin and Ashlee White with the Texas Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene. A heavy duty wrecker from Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan was utilizing the south-bound lanes of 59 to recover the jack knifed 18 wheeler. While the south-bound lanes were blocked (and traffic stopped), the driver of a full size garbage truck (29 year old Noel Maldonado, of Porter), was traveling south-bound and seemed to not to notice the stopped traffic until it was too late. Maldonado braked and then lost control of his garbage truck as it slid off the pavement to the left and turned over in the mud. Again, no injuries. Maldonado was cited for unsafe speed. Traffic on 59 was blocked for over an hour.
