HELICOPTER REGISTERED IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY STRIKE HOUSTON RADIO TOWER AND CRASHES AS TOWER COLLAPSES
805PM helicopter struck a radio tower and crashed in the area of the Farmers Market on Navigation near Jensen in Houston. Houston Fire is responding to Engelke Street for a reported helicopter crash.
9:13PM-The helicopter a Robinson R-22 is owned by a Montgomery County Firm but was on a lease at to touring company. It departed Ellington Field at 7:44 pm and filed to fly to the Aquarium in downtown Houston. According to radar they were at 600 feet traveling at 93 knots (106mph) when it struck either the KQUE-AM Univision Radio Tower near the intersection of Ennis and Navigation in Southeast Houston. Also reported on that tower was KLTN, Que Buena 102.9, KAMA, Latino Mix 104.9.. The crash occurred at 7:52 pm. Video from the scene shows the helicopter hitting the tower and bursting into flames as the tower collapsed.
