Nineteen year old Natasha Atchley was found murdered inside the trunk of her car on May 3rd, 1992. The night before she had gone out to a friend’s birthday party in Shepherd but she had not come home. The next morning around 10am, a mile away from the party on a rural dirt road in San Jacinto County, her mother would find what was left of her daughter. She had been burned, and all that was left of her was bones.
An accelerant called drip gas was identified inside the trunk, and it is believed that the killer might have used oil and gas wells within the subdivision to gain the accelerant. Law enforcement has said that the sheer number of people that had attended the party that Natasha had gone to made investigating the murder difficult; the party has been described as a mix of drugs, alcohol and powerful connections. In the beginning, two people were arrested for beating up Natasha, they even had a witness who claimed they saw the incident, however the case fell apart when the witness changed their story.
Natasha has been described as a pretty girl who was wild and loved to have a good time, she was a cheerleader, and her best friend said that there was just something about her. A $3,000 reward is being offered to any person who is able to provide information that leads to the arrest of the person/s responsible for Natasha’s murder.
Natasha previously attended school in nearby Livingston (Polk County), but moved and graduated from Odessa Permian High School in 1990. Atchley was visiting friends from the Livingston area at the time of her murder.
