Just after midnight, on Wed. 4/29/20 A Splendora PD Officer was working radar on I-69 in Splendora when a silver Chrysler 300 passed him at 90 miles per hour.

The officer attempted to stop the suspect who accelerated to 130 miles per hour. DPS joined in the pursuit which went down I-69 exiting, several streets, running the stoplights at the intersections, and then re-entering the freeway.

When they reached Little York the driver again exited and traveled south on Jensen Drive to Laura Koppe. He then traveled across to Aldine Westfield and back up north where he lost a tire. Just after passing Tidwell he stopped and tried to flee. Houston Police who also joined in the pursuit quickly arrested him at Aldine Westfield and Preist.

The driver, identified as Jorge Lopez Jr., 36 of Lufkin was arrested and charged with felony evading arrest. He told officers his gas pedal stuck. When Lopez found out he would not go to the Harris County Jail where he could easily bond out he told officers his face hurt. HFD responded to the scene and checked him. He was then transported to the Montgomery County Jail where a bond was denied/ It was also learned he had an extensive criminal record and was currently on two bonds in Angelina County for burglary of a habitation.
