A TRAFFIC STOP IN LIBERTY COUNTY TURNS INTO POSSIBLE LIFE SAVING EVENT

On Monday January 10, 2022, at approximately 6:20pm a Corporal with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office patrol division was headed east on US-90 when he observed a Ford Focus headed west driving at a very slow speed. The vehicle did not have the headlights on. The Corporal turned around and activated the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver did not stop. The Corporal then activated his siren, but the driver still did not stop. The vehicle continued to travel at a slow speed. Another LCSO deputy came to assist. The vehicle was stopped near Texaco Road and the driver was given verbal commands to exit the vehicle. When the driver exited the vehicle, the Corporal observed that the female driver appeared disoriented. The driver was asked several questions and she did not answer them properly. The Corporal noticed signs of an altered mental state. The City of Liberty EMS responded to check the driver’s medical condition. As EMS was checking the vital signs of the driver, she became more disoriented. The Corporal was notified by EMS that the driver had to be transported by air to get the necessary medical treatment that was needed.

A probable warning being issued for failing to drive without headlights when required turned into a possible life saving event. Thank you to the City of Liberty EMS and to the LCSO deputies.
