Alcohol Suspected-Fatal MVA, Polk County Early Sat. morning

At approximately 1:22 am on Saturday February 12, 2022, a white 2016 Dodge Pickup, driven by Tarius Jamera Martin, 21, of Livingston, was north-bound on Upper Leggett Road (1811 block). Martin entered a curve too fast, left the pavement to the left, jumped a ditch, landed and rolled into a tree. The vehicle bounced off the tree and came to rest upright in the weeds. During the rollover, a passenger, Latorian Trenee King, 23, of Livingston was ejected from the vehicle and was killed. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Troopers Kevin Burman and Ashlee White with the Texas Highway Patrol. There was a heavy smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and beer bottles both inside and outside the vehicle. Martin was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. All traffic on Upper Leggett Road was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Pending toxicology reports, Tarius Martin could be facing the charge of intoxication man slaughter. Justice of the Peace, Robert Johnson performed an inquest at the scene. King was transported from the scene by a first-call car from Cochran Funeral Home. The vehicle was recovered by Country Boy Towing for Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
