Shortly before 3:00 am Monday 3/2/20 at least two black males wearing black and bandanas backed a STOLEN Dodge pickup from Baytown up to the side doors of the Flying J Truck Stop at SH 242 and US 59. One got out and using a tie-down strap hooked to the rear bumper, went in through the door. Once inside he wrapped the strap around the ATM machine. As he did the pickup accelerated as the male ran out through the door. They may have succeeded if it wasn’t for an 18-wheeler truck driver inside the store who saw what was happening. The truck driver quickly flipped the strap up as the stolen truck was pulling away. The thieves succeeded in getting the sign off the top of the ATM as they drove out the parking lot and south on the feeder of I-69 to Spear Circle. A Patton Village officer on routine patrol had just left the location before the incident. When the call came in from Flying J employees he quickly returned. He immediately started a search of the area and spotted the stolen truck, still running with the lights on parked in the middle of Spears Circle. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Roman Forest, and Precinct 4 Constables also responded. After searching the area with Precinct 4 K-9, it was learned that the thieves fled in a waiting vehicle seconds before the officer arrived on Spears Circle. This is not the first incident and the normally crowded truck stop. At 5:30 am on October 18, 2015, James Dwayne Crowley entered the Flying J and forced employees to empty the safe. As this was happening his gun discharged striking an employee. Crowley was given a life sentence by a Montgomery County Jury. He is currently at a TDCJ Prison unit in Beeville, Texas and is eligible for parole in 2045. Then on February 18, 2019, just before 7 pm, four males entered the Flying J which was full of customers including a high school marching band eating dinner in the adjoining Dennys. Using a hammer and crowbar they went to work on the ATM machine inside the store. A Cut and Shoot Assistant Chief was in the store at the time and went to investigate, He identified himself as the four tried to flee. He was able to take one of the males into custody. TRAYVIOUN MARQUISE HILL-HARDY, of 415 Brushy Glen in Houston was charged with criminal attempt/ theft of contents of ATM. On October 22, 2019, he was sentenced by Judge Hamilton to 5-years deferred probation and a $1000 fine. If anyone may have seen this truck or any of the activity you are asked to call Patton Village Police.
