AUTO/PED, VICTIM IDENTIFIED- MALE FROM EMC

At approximately 9:00 pm on (3/16/2021) Tuesday night Cleveland Police were notified of a possible auto-pedestrian crash on I-69 near Loop 105. Montgomery County also received calls from a frantic female who said she was driving southbound and hit something and thought was a person.

The crews were able to locate the vehicle on the southbound shoulder. The Chevrolet Suburban had heavy left front damage but there was no indication of what was hit. Police closed the freeway and started the search.

After walking close to a half-mile they found some vehicle parts in the road. It was then they discovered the body of a male on the opposite side of the concrete wall and in the construction area.

From what Cleveland Police were able to determine was the female driver was in the left lane closest to the concrete wall in the construction area.

There is no lighting in the area. The evidence showed the victim identified as Jacob Allan King, 18, was either walking in the one-foot wide space between the main lanes and the concrete wall or was attempting to cross the freeway.

He was dressed in dark clothing. He was struck and thrown over the wall. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital for a mandatory blood draw when a fatality is involved.

She was not injured. Pace-Stancil Funeral Home removed the victim from the scene. Smith Towing removed the vehicle. I-69 was reopened at Midnight.
