CANEY CREEK, FM-2090

At 2 pm Saturday the National Weather Service issued a River Flood Warning for Caney Creek. It stated that at 1: 30 pm the creek at FM 2090 was at 19.4 feet. The flood stage is 17.0 feet. However, at 3:30 pm, the creek was still on the rise at 19.46 feet. The forecast says it is expected to fall below the flood stage Sunday. It also notes that at 19.5 feet Crockett Martin goes under. At 3 pm Crockett Martin already has 17 inches of water over the road surface. Many motorists are having to turn around after several small cars have already flooded out in the water. The bridge over Caney Creek has been under construction for just over a year to widen. Currently, a crane and compressor are underwater in the construction area with a welder about to go under. The company was notified early this morning. Residents along the creek are watching also as water is already entering some of the structures. During Imelda, the creek crested at 139.7 feet above sea level. It is currently 136.51 feet above sea level. Harvey topped out at 144.3 feet above sea level. The record however was 144.7 feet above sea level on November 1, 1940. Most of the Caney Creek rise has come from runoff north of FM 2920 where only 3-inches has fallen since Friday morning. Peach Creek in Splendora which usually rises also is currently well below the flood stage and dropping.

Lake Conroe is closed due to debris on the lake. The normal pool of 201.1 feet is now at 203.03 feet causing the San Jacinto River Authority to release 9275 cubic feet per second off the dam. The effects downstream are not bad with the San Jacinto River at SH 99 by 3-feet from yesterday. SH 242 sensor is not operational due to the bridge construction.
