On April 21, 2020. Former Mayor Otis Cohn had passed away in early March 2020 after a long illness so Mayor Pro-Tem Carolyn McWaters has been handling the mayoral responsibilities.
At the April 21, 2020, City Council meeting, council appointed Richard Boyett to fill the remaining time left on Mayor Cohn’s term. Mayor Boyett’s term will last until May 2021 as the mayor’s seat is up for election in 2021. ( Video of City Council meeting below )
Mayor Boyett had served three consecutive terms as a Cleveland City council member, plus holding the office of mayor for two terms with the last time in office was 2003.
