At approximately 8:50 pm on Monday August 1, 2022, the Polk County Sheriff's Office received a call from a driver who stated that he had just struck someone or something. The driver, Anthony Davis, 28, of Porter was south-bound on US-59 in a white 2016 Range Rover when his vehicle struck a pedestrian that appeared to be crossing the road from the south-bound side of 59. According to Davis, it happened so fast, that he didn't know what he hit. Davis pulled to the right shoulder of the south-bound side of 59. Davis' windshield was caved in, and the front end on the passenger's side was heavily damaged. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Livingston Fire Chief, Corky Cochran, and Trooper Donny Akers with the Texas Highway Patrol. Akers was assisted by Sergeant Sam Lattner (also Highway Patrol), and Deputy Cedric McDuffy with the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The men searched the vicinity and located the victim.The victim was found in the crossover section between the north-bound and south-bound sides of 59. The victim was identified as Harry Samuel Wright, 63, of Coldspring he was killed on impact. Justice of the Peace, Robert "Dooley" Johnson performed an inquest at the scene. A first call car from Cochran Funeral Home transported the victim from the scene. Anthony Davis was physically okay. His vehicle was recovered by Dan's Towing and will be stored in Livingston.
The accident remains under investigation.

I just hope the guy driving this car is going to be ok mentally. When this happens it really does bother the person that was driving the vehicle.. I will be keeping the man that got killed.
