CPD Traffic stop leads to ARREST, Methamphetamine

Writer: Ray Chappell - CTSNRay Chappell - CTSN

On Saturday, January 15, 2022, at approximately 2:02 pm, a Cleveland Police Officer patrolling the 600 block of W. Southline when a white 2005 Ford Crown Victoria was observed committing a traffic violation.

The Officer initiated a traffic stop at which contact was made with the driver, who was identified as Elizabeth Mae Lane (age 49 – Liberty County Address). The Officer discovered Lane did not have a valid driver’s license, nor did the vehicle have liability insurance. Lane was placed under arrest for the traffic violations. Prior to being taken into custody, Lane focused on the front right pocket of the jacket she was wearing. Lane reached into the pocket, but when asked to remove her hands, she stopped making eye contact with the Officer and stared at the jacket pocket.

When advising Lane she was under arrest for the traffic violations, she abruptly removed her jacket and threw it into the vehicle she had been driving. After being placed into the patrol unit, a check was made of the jacket Lane was wearing. The Officer found a tin container inside the jacket pocket, which contained 1.67 grams of methamphetamine.

Elizabeth Mae Lane was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd Degree Felony.
