Final Police Honors for HPD Officer John Wilbanks

Statement from Police Chief Troy Finner Houston Police Department Octobter 13, 2021 - It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of Senior Police Officer John Wilbanks. He has been fighting COVID-19 for some time and, sadly, lost his battle today (Oct. 13). Officer Wilbanks, 53, has been an HPD officer since June of 1994. Throughout his lengthy career, Officer Wilbanks worked in the Southeast, Southwest, Clear Lake, Traffic Enforcement, Vehicular Crimes, Tactical Operations and Air & Marine Divisions. Officer Wilbanks was most recently assigned to the Special Operations Division. All of HPD mourns the loss of Officer Wilbanks and we ask the entire city of Houston to join us in lifting his family in prayer. Today, we lost a man who is the epitome of what it is to be a public servant. Sadly, Senior Police Officer Wilbanks is HPD’s second line of duty death due to COVID-19.
