Two alert Splendora Police Officers spotted smoke coming from the Excel Feed Store at 14487 Old US Highway 59 at FM 2090. Within minutes East Montgomery County Fire units were on the scene. They were able to quickly douse the blaze which did more damage to the floor than anything else. Inside was an area for pigeons. The blaze believed to have been ignited by a heat lamp caught the plywood floor on fire. The close to twenty pigeons appeared to be unharmed. It took just over an hour to clear the smoke from the structure. The building is of pier and beam construction. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal will investigate.
