Livingston, 2-Vehicle MVA with Entrapment

At approximately 10:15 am on Monday May 4, 2020, a white 1996 Dodge Intrepid, driven by Amanda Nichole Bentel,  26, of Livingston, pulled off of Stewart Road (Wiggins Village) onto US-190.

Bentel crossed over to the west-bound lanes of traffic and was turning onto the west-bound lanes when a red 2002 Ford F-150 driven by Richard Arrendell, 64, of Shepherd pulled out of a parking lot and failed to yield to Bentel.  Arrendell's truck struck Bentel's front end.

The car served as a ramp as Arrendell's pickup nosed upward and turned over on its driver's side and spinning around coming to rest in the crossover area.  Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Deputy Richard Green with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers John Allen and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol.  Arrendell was trapped.

Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to cut the roof off of Arrendell's pickup.  Arrendell was slowly and safely removed from his vehicle and transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Bentel was physically okay.  Traffic on both sides of 190 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup.  Arrendell was cited for failure to yield.

Arrendell's vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.  Bentel's car was recovered by Harwood Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston.
