At approximately 10:30 am on Friday October 8, 2021, a large box truck that was transporting furniture, and driven by Marlon Diaz, 38, of Houston was north-bound on US-59. As Diaz was approaching the Livingston City Limits, traffic had reached a slow down and Diaz was coming too fast. Diaz steered his truck left (off the pavement) to avoid a collision, then over corrected right. His box truck left the pavement to the right, turned over and crashed through a road sign. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, and Troopers Johnny Wilkerson and Cotye Lowrie with the Texas Highway Patrol. Diaz was physically okay, but his passenger sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. One lane of traffic was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Diaz is likely facing a citation for failure to maintain a single lane of traffic.

A large box truck, driven by 38 year old Marlon Diaz, of Houston, crashed when Diaz was allegedly coming too fast and traffic was at a slow down. To avoid a collision, Diaz left the pavement and turned over as his truck crashed through a state road sign.
The crash caused the top of the box portion of the truck to burst. Diaz was hauling furniture.
Diaz's passenger was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Diaz (speaking with a State Trooper) was uninjured.
The TXDOT safety break-away sign worked to perfection and probably saved the life of the passenger.
