Montgomery County, SAN JACINTO RIVER-WATER RESCUE

On Sunday ( Mothers Day ) 5/8/2022 Needham Fire was dispatched to the San Jacinto River where it was reported two males were swimming and swept away by the current. They arrived to find one male out of the water. The other was downstream over 150 yards hanging onto a limb in the middle of the water. A Needham firefighter went into the water after him. Just as he got to the 17-year-old male he broke loose from the limb. The firefighter was able to grab him and swim him to the opposite shore where Montgomery County Deputies had arrived. After about a 20-minute walk out of the woods, he was met by MCHD medics. The teen who suffered from exhaustion and had swallowed quite a bit of water was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands in stable condition. Currently, the river is flowing close to fifteen miles per hour.
