The new wrecker policy went into effect on 1/1/21 at midnight. It has been found to have several bugs which officials say they are working out. In several instances since then officers have been standing on the side of the road waiting. If the first wrecker called does not make it in 15 minutes another wrecker is dispatched. In some cases, the next wrecker hasn’t shown up at the scene either. In some instances, DPS, Montgomery County Precinct 4, and Splendora are just requesting the first wrecker for a traffic hazard. The county has been broken into twenty-four zones with multiple companies in each zone. Also, several readers of Montgomery County Police Reporter have asked about the policy on rates which MCPR have posted. The one thing that it did change is multiple wreckers running to scenes and multiple wreckers on a scene.
