Shepherd, Wrong Way Driver causes Roll Over Crash near 2914

At approximately 2:25 am on Sat. morning

February 9, 2020, a black 2009 Chevy Cobalt, driven by Otis Wright, 31, of Livingston, was south-bound on US-59.  Wright was suddenly slammed by a gray 2017 Chevy Malibu driven by Shawnte McNight, 30, of Lovelady.  McNight was driving north-bound in the south-bound lanes of traffic.  McNight's front end clipped Wright's front end (glancing blow).  The collision sent Wright's vehicle into the center median while McNight's vehicle came to rest in the south-bound lanes of traffic.  Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Livingston Volunteer Fire Department and Trooper Linley Clark with the Texas Highway Patrol.  What happened was McNight started on the wrong side of 59 back in Shepherd.  She struck another vehicle causing the other vehicle to roll over.  McNight just kept going and crossed into Polk County via the Trinity River Bridge.  At the time of the crash, Deputies from San Jacinto County were searching for McNight as someone had called in about her reckless driving.  Wright, his female passenger, and McNight were all transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.  Pending toxicology results, McNight could be facing charges of driving while intoxicated (or worse).  Wright's vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston.  McNight's vehicle was recovered by a wrecker service out of San Jacinto County.
