TEXAS RANGERS INVESTIGATING- SAN JACINTO COUNTY DEADLY OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

At approximately 7:00 pm on Sunday May 22, 2022. The SJCSO dispatched a disturbance call in Shepherd. San Jacinto County Deputies responding to the disturbance call spotted the vehicle matching the description of the suspect involved traveling south on Hwy. 59. The pickup driven by John Tapp exited Hwy. 150. in Shepherd Deputies attemted to stop the vehicle after Mr. Tapp exited Hwy. 59 he refused to stop. A pursuit initiated that lasted approximately 2.5 miles and ended Off of FM-2666. ON Hickory Creek Dr. at a residence where Mr. Tapp's wife was visiting . Sheriff Capers stated that after Mr. Tapp pointed the gun to his head Then he fired a shot toward a deputy. Gunfire was returned by another deputy striking Mr. Tapp. according to Sheriff Capers.

Medics with Allegiance EMS attempted life saving measures while en route to St. Luke's Memorial Hospital in Livingston where he was pronouced deceased at 8:22 pm.

All deputies involved are on administrative leave for an undisclosed time.

The investigation is being done by the Texas Rangers.
