Trulie Renea Sumerall, Charged with a 2nd Degree Felony & Class B miss. during Traffic Stop

On March 25, 2020 at approximately 7:40pm a Liberty County Sheriff’s Office patrol unit was travelling South on FM-1010 near CR-340 when the two deputies observed a gray 4-door vehicle parked on the side of the road with the front windows rolled down. The driver appeared to be sleeping. The patrol unit’s overhead lights were activated and it stopped behind the vehicle. When the deputies approached the vehicle they observed a female sitting in the driver’s seat with her head leaned back and her eyes closed. There was a male subject sitting in the passenger seat and he was talking on a cell phone. The female woke up and was identified as Trulie Renea Sumerall, W/M, DOB: 01/09/1996. She became irate and began crying. The deputy observed many sores on Sumerall that are common from excessive drug use.

The passenger was identified and a check with LCSO dispatch showed that he was “clear” (not wanted on outstanding warrants”. A check on Sumerall showed that she was also “clear”. Consent to search was given to the deputies. Two cosmetic bags containing two clear plastic baggies with a crystal-like substance, a red torch lighter, two glass pipes with white and black/brown residue and several small baggies of a green leafy substance, a green Marlboro box with a green leafy substance and two prescription type pills were found in a pocket on the back of the driver’s seat. The passenger stated that everything belonged to the driver. Sumerall admitted that some of the stuff was hers. She then became irate and started to scream and bang her head on the hood of the patrol car. Sumerall was read her rights and she became more irate and began cursing at the deputies. She was placed under arrest and charged with (1) Possession of a Controlled Substance – Second Degree Felony, (2) Possession of a Controlled Substance – State Jail Felony, and (3) Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor. Sumerall was transported to the Liberty County Jail and release do the book-in officer. The male subject was released.
